Brazilian Blowout: What to Expect Before, During, and After
The Brazilian Blowout is one of the most consistently requested services at salons across Los Angeles, and it has been for over a decade. It eliminates frizz, reduces drying time dramatically, and leaves hair with a smoothness that most people have never experienced outside of a salon. Here is everything you need to know before booking one.
What it actually does
A Brazilian Blowout applies a liquid keratin formula to the hair shaft and seals it under heat. The treatment coats each strand with a protective protein layer that smooths the cuticle, eliminates frizz, and adds shine. Unlike a traditional Japanese straightening or relaxer, it does not permanently change your curl pattern. The treatment gradually fades over time, meaning your natural texture returns gently rather than growing out in a hard line.
Results typically last ten to twelve weeks with proper home care.
What to expect during the appointment
The service takes approximately two hours from start to finish. Your stylist will shampoo your hair, apply the formula section by section, allow it to process briefly, then blow-dry and flat iron the hair to seal the treatment. The flat iron work is what activates the formula and creates the smooth result.
Your hair will feel noticeably different before you leave the salon. Smooth, weightless, and with significantly more shine than when you walked in.
After care
The treatment is fully set by the time you leave. You can wash your hair, pull it back, or go to the gym immediately — there is no waiting period with the current Brazilian Blowout formula.
To extend the results, use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates strip the treatment faster than anything else. We carry the Brazilian Blowout aftercare line at The One, and we recommend it without hesitation — clients who use it consistently get closer to the twelve-week end of the result range.
Who it is best for
Brazilian Blowouts work on all hair types but deliver the most dramatic results on frizzy, coarse, or chemically treated hair. Fine hair benefits primarily from the shine and reduced drying time rather than frizz elimination. Color-treated hair responds beautifully — the treatment actually enhances color vibrancy rather than dulling it.
If you have a specific event coming up and want your hair to perform reliably for the next few months, a Brazilian Blowout is one of the most efficient investments you can make.
